April 27, 2025 Choristers Guild Children's and Youth Choir Festival at First Presbyterian Church Houston
The Vision...
Over fifty years ago a woman had a dream. She envisioned that children's choirs are a most important place for the building of Christian character and that sacred music would be a viable force in the spiritual formation of a child's life. Her name was Ruth Krehbiel Jacobs.
Her teaching was so successful that people all over the country wrote to her to ask about her methods. When the daily volume of correspondence exceeded her capacity to answer personally, she began a series of letters to some 125 interested and committed choir directors. The letters answered their questions concerning teaching techniques, spiritual enrichment, and worship participation. Thus in 1949 Choristers Guild was born. That original 125 has grown to over 5,000 today, but over the years, Choristers Guild has had an impact on the lives of over 65,000 directors and all the children under their musical care.
Each time new officers are installed or a new chapter is organized, the vision of Ruth Jacobs, one woman, is lived out and extended.
God continues to use the unlikely to further The Kingdom on this earth. Most of us never envision ourselves as being a mover or shaker. In all of the powerful and profound happenings in the world, each was begun by one person. Each of you can, in some way, be that person.
